If a book were written about the life of Hulda Pearl Tipton the title would be "A Woman of Adventure". Her adventure began April 15, 1930, in Doss, TX when she was born to parents John Jacob and Hulda (Kroll) Dittmar. Another chapter in her adventure began on November 28, 1952, when she married Fredrick Arnold Tipton.
She was always ready for another adventure, even while working on their farm near Ava, MO. She was a very caring person who worked and volunteered many hours at the Ava Senior Citizens Center and Trinity Lutheran Church. Even as she was playing cards at the Center she was planning her next great adventure. She was not afraid of a challenge. She and Fred took their 2 kids and a cat on a canoe float trip on the Moose River in Alaska. When going around a bend they met a moose and while backing up the canoe a leak was ripped in the canvas canoe. Hulda merely put medical tape and wood on the hole and continued on the journey. She enjoyed the vast views as she hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and back up. For her 70th birthday, she spent 5 weeks hiking the Appalachian Trail alone. On her birthday a group of fellow hikers from another country helped with her water for the day and sang her happy birthday in their native language. She was also introduced to "white lightin'" while on the trip. In Australia, one of her highlights was to watch the sunset from a hot air balloon while sipping champagne on her birthday. She toured countries from East to West, including Ireland, Israel, China, New Zealand, and Laos. She met many new friends on these adventures. She began her biggest adventure on June 6, 2021, at Roaring River Rehab Center, Cassville, MO when she departed this life. Hulda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and several siblings. Hulda shared her adventures with one son Guy Tipton and his wife, Janice of League City, TX, and one daughter, Deborah, and husband Richard Flattem of Monet, MO. Her three grandchildren: Tonya Tipton, Cassandra Tipton, and Rebecca Tipton get to share her adventures through memories as will two great-grandchildren; Ian and Guy Chrismon. She is also survived by a sister Anna. She was a special lady to all those who knew her, especially her church friends and Senior Citizens friends. A memorial service will be hosted Sunday, June 27, 2021, at 1:00 at the Trinity Lutheran Church Ava MO. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Ava City Cemetery. Hulda would have liked for any donation to be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in her memory Cremation and all arrangements are under the care and direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.
