Katherine I Coats

Katherine Irene (Rhynes) Coats was born in Ava, MO on September 9, 1932 to Lee Rhynes and Bessie Mae Privett Rhynes. She departed this life on December 24, 2021 at the age of 89 years, 3 months 15 days. Katherine spent most of her life in and around Ava. She moved to Country Living Assisted Living in Mtn Grove in July 2016 but always considered Ava her home.
Katherine married Carl Coats in May of 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and daughter Alice Coats. 


She is survived by her sons, Bill Coats and wife Sherrie of Ava, and Terry Coats and wife Diane of Mtn Grove, granddaughters Shannon Cornelison and husband John of Dadeville, Kristi Stillwell and husband Scott of Mtn Grove and Kathi Davis and husband Chris of Cabool. She is also survived by a number of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as a host of friends. 
Katherine was a Christian and attended church as long as her health permitted. She had a servant’s heart and a meek and quiet spirit and was always ready to help out behind the scenes. She was also well known for her delicious homestyle cooking. After her children started attending school, she began working as a custodian in the Ava School system and continued working there until her retirement. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. 
 
Pallbearers are Steve Willis, Wayne Willis, Scott Stillwell, Chris Davis, Braxton Davis and John Cornelison. Funeral services will be held at Ava Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 29 at 11 am with visitation at 10 am. Burial will be at Fannon Cemetery south of Ava. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Fannon Cemetery.
