Phillip Gordon Brooke passed away from this life on May 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 11, 1950, to parents Voyne and Wilma Pauline (Plumb) Brooke.
Phillip was raised in rural Douglas County. After graduating from Ava High School he attended a semester of college before deciding to enroll in the United States Army. Phillip served in the Vietnam theater. While there he received many awards including, the Combat Infantryman Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, the Army Commendation Medal, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart. Before exiting the military, Phillip served as an honor guard for fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. After the military, Phillip returned to Ava and became a business owner. He owned and operated his own construction company, including constructing grain bins. He also spent some time dairy farming. Phillip loved the outdoors and spent many hours of his life hunting and fishing. Phillip delighted in watching the bees fly about the many hives he established on his property and on the properties of his sons. Another of Phillip’s pastimes once included flying. Philip enjoyed using his pilot’s license to take others up in the air where he was able to share his love of flying. Phillip, most of all, enjoyed spending time with his family, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, his son Austin, his twin daughters Melissa and Melody, and his sister Phyllis (Brooke) Girdner. Phillip leaves behind many who will miss him dearly including sons, Preston Brooke and Michael Brooke and his fiancé Rachel Irby as well as his sister Marcia (Brooke) Davis and husband Harold. His grandchildren, Rhett Brooke, Brandtley Brooke,Trevor McChesney (and Meghan Clift), Tyler Brooke, Sydney Brooke, Shawn Brooke, and Kara Brooke. His great-grandchildren Aria McChesney, Ellie McChesney, Weslynn McChesney, Ryker Cantrell, Everleigh Cantrell, and Holland Reid. He is also survived by his nephew Richard Girdner, niece Brooke Fruits (and husband Adam), great-nephew Peyton Fruits, great-niece Rorie Fruits, and a host of other relatives and friends. Cremation services for Phillip are being conducted by Ava Family Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Memorials may be made to Whites Creek Cemetery or donor’s choice in care of the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date and time.
