Wilma "Jean" Porter
Wilma "Jean" Porter started her heavenly journey on March 9, 2023 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare in Ava, Missouri. She started her earthly journey on October 12, 1932 to parents Everett and Anna (Myers) Hicks, in Ava, Missouri.
On September 18, 1950 Jean, as she was known to one and all, was united in marriage to Herval Porter in Salem, Arkansas. They would have 70 years of marriage until Herval departed this life in 2020. Jean helped Herval for many years with the taxi business in Ava. She also was known to do the books for the trailer park.
Most of all Jean lived her life for Christ. She was a devote Christian and was known as witnessing to all she saw. Before her health prevented it, she was a dependable member of Faith Rock Church and Church of the Living God. She was also a prayer warrior. Even after living at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare the other residents knew they could depend on Jean to pray for them when they were having concerns, she also would leave them get well cards or cards of encouragement. Jean always made friends wherever she was and to know Jean was to love Jean.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Herval, her parents Everett and Anna and step-mother Velma. She was also preceded in death by son, Richard Dean Porter and brother Bill Hicks and sister Lisa Osburn.
Jean will be missed by her son Richard Lee Porter, he grandchildren, Michael Porter, James Porter, Richard Lee Porter II, and Alex Porter. She will also be missed by one great-grandchild. Also mourning Jean will be her brothers, Jim Hicks and John Hicks. She will also be missed by many other family members, friends, and the staff and residents of Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday March 15, 2023 at Girdner Cemetery starting at 10:00 AM.
